Floor Refinishing Project

Supported by the Pembina Manitou Area Foundation (PMAF) and the Government of Manitoba (The Honourable Nellie Kennedy - The Minister of Sport, Culture, Heritage, and Tourism)

Thanks to the generous support of the Pembina Manitou Area Foundation (PMAF) and the Government of Manitoba, the Manitou Opera House completed a significant floor refinishing project that enhanced both the appearance and longevity of our historic space.

The work was carried out by Sheldon Penner over the month of August, and involved sanding and removing the old finish from the original hardwood floors in key areas of the building, including:

• The main sitting area

• The entranceway

• The top of the northeast stairwell, including stairs and adjacent storage areas

• The main stage

• The backstage area

Following the sanding and preparation, all surfaces were thoroughly cleaned and sealed with four coats of high-quality polyurethane, restoring the natural beauty of the hardwood while providing durable protection for high-traffic use.

In total, approximately 3,880 square feet of flooring was refinished. The project was completed in time to proudly welcome the community back to the Opera House for the Honey Garlic Festival concert in September 2025.
