Why is “Opera House” used in the name of the building?
When the Manitou Opera House was named in 1908, “Opera House” was a general term used for elegant establishments that provided exceptional arts entertainment. We have had opera singers perform and operettas staged at the Manitou Opera House but never an opera per-say. The fine performances and the name have continued for more than 100 years.
What types of events, programs, and activities happen at the Manitou Opera House?
We host a diverse range of events, programs and activities that cater to various interests and age groups. Some examples include live performances such as music concerts and theatrical productions, art exhibitions, community events such as fundraisers and meetings, music festivals, youth drop-in groups, seasonal markets, and so much more!
